The district of Udham Singh Nagar was named in the memory of Late Udham Singh who was a great freedom fighter and who killed General Dyre after the brutal Jaliyawalan Bagh massacre. Lying in the vicinity of Kumaon hills it became a separate district in 1995 carved out of
nainital. Te district comprises of Rudrapur, Kashipur & Khatima sub divisions and is surrounded by the exotic Himalayan ranges.
